seeing china through my grandparent's eyes

because looking asian isn't enough - an introduction

I have always considered myself Asian.

More specifically, I have always considered myself Chinese. I look Chinese. My family is Chinese. I was born in China. It made sense I would think of myself that way. Recently, I realized that even though I thought myself to be Chinese, it did not mean I was deserving of the claim. The reasons were obvious: I have been living in America since I was two; I never kept close contact with my relatives in China; and the little Chinese I could speak was lacking, to say the least. I had no more claim of being Chinese than the next person. This project is my means to rectify that.

Catalogued on this Tumblr are interviews I had with my grandparents. The topics span their life in China and encompass their thoughts and ideals. There is a picture gallery of my grandparents, myself, and the rest of my family for your viewing pleasure. Also featured is a collection of pictures and videos of my most recent visit to China this summer.

Everything is available to you in the navigation menu above, so please take the time to look around.
