Interview with my grandfather, Pan Weishan.

What was your first impression of your future spouse?

I met my wife through work. At that time, I was involved in infrastructure in a factory, and she worked at City Construction Commission. I noticed that she was a good woman, and we gradually established a relationship.

Did your life change a lot after you got married?

After we got married, we made a family. The pressure and responsibility increased with having a family and children.

Interview with my grandmother, Li Wenzheng

How did you meet your future spouse?

About my marriage, how I met my husband was like this. My job was in urban planning. My husband’s job was construction infrastructure in the 796 factory. In Mian Yang, if you wanted to build something, you must get permission from the City Construction Committee. I was in charge of this committee. If a company wanted to build something they must follow according to the city’s building plan. Then according to the needs of the company, the committee chooses the property for the company to build on.  My husband was the 796 factory representative, we initially had a work relationship. Since we had this work relationship, we had to contact each other often and knew the other well. I had feelings for him because of our work, and we founded a romantic relationship by choice. One time when I was sick, he bought a lot of healthy and nutritional food and visited me, and I was very touched.

Did you expect to have three girls? Did you ever want a boy?

I hoped I would have three children, two girls and one boy. However, the gender of the child is not something I can decide. In the end, though we had three girls, I was very satisfied. They are all very cute.

Was having a family difficult?

After we started a family, because my husband and I had jobs, we had a steady income. Because we did not have to worry about money, it was easier to raise children. A babysitter also helped us, so our routine life was not difficult either. We had a very happy life.

What is a favorite memory of your married life or your children?

Our family really liked to take pictures. On the weekends, we often brought the kids outside to play and we would take pictures. The pictures we took captured wonderful memories. From processing the negative film to a picture, we did this all by ourselves in our family’s dark room. My children were also interested in processing these pictures. They often helped us work in the dark room with much joy.
